The Maid of Fairbourne Hall - review

If you're a fan of the PBS series Downton Abbey, you'll enjoy reading The Maid of Fairbourne Hall by Julie Klassen. While this story is set in the Regency Era, rather than the World War I era, it offers a glimpse of a servant's life in a well-to-do home in England. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I really appreciated how the heroine stepped up to the plate and did what she needed to do, and grew in the process.

Here's the publisher's synopsis:
To escape a scheme to marry her off to a dishonorable man, Margaret Macy flees London disguised as a housemaid. If she can remain unwed until her next birthday, she will receive an inheritance, and with it, sweet independence. But she never planned on actually working as a servant. And certainly not in the home of Nathaniel and Lewis Upchurch--both former suitors. As she fumbles through the first real work of her life, Margaret struggles to keep her identity secret when suspicions arise and prying eyes visit Fairbourne Hall. Can she avoid a trap meant to force her from hiding?

This was one of my favorite books. Very entertaining--and fun to read about what happens in the servants quarters for a change. I also loved that it had a really good story that I could read without having to wade through steamy sex scenes. It was clean, fun to read, interesting, exciting and entertaining!
