A few weeks ago my older daughter (age 19) came to me and asked, "Mom, do we have a copy of the Common English Bible?" Like I mentioned in my last post, we have a variety of Bible translations, but the CEB is one we didn't have. She said she had been reading it on her iPod and really liked it, for a modern translation. Just a few days later I received an invitation to review that very translation. I already had the FaithGirlz Bible lined up to give Becky for Easter, and now I would have one for Laura, too! I was excited.
The edition I received was a beautiful, but inexpensive, leather-like bound "Thinline DecoTan Tan/Brick Red" edition. Laura was thrilled with it. She says it's easy to read and understand, and she likes the feel of the "leather-like" cover and the portable size.
"The Common English Bible is written in contemporary idiom at the same reading level as the newspaper USA TODAY—using language that’s comfortable and accessible for today’s English readers." It is, as you might have guessed, available for free in a digital format at Bible Gateway. It is available with or without the Apocrypha. Being Protestant, I chose the "without" edition. Thank you to B&B Media for providing me a review copy.
