Once-a-Week Unit Studies can be used as a supplement to whatever other homeschool curriculum you might be using, or they can be used as stand-alone studies. I like that it offers more flexibility than other unit studies I've seen, since it's designed to be used just one day a week. The library lists include the library call number so you can easily find each title on the shelf at your library without having to look them up in the library catalog. I appreciate that time-saving feature.
Each well-rounded unit study fully immerses you and your family in a particular topic while incorporating as wide a range of subjects as possible: family devotionals, quality library reading selections, family read-alouds, history, science, geography, language, life skills, research, art, crafts, music, classic literature, documentaries, field trip suggestions, family game and movie nights, and even some fun "Stump Your Dad Trivia."The We the People unit focuses on "Getting to Know Your Constitution" from a distinctively Christian worldview. In addition to studying the Constitution in detail, we also learned about some of our Founding Fathers who were involved in writing the Constitution, as well as the historical context. Week 5 features "The Executive Branch" of the government, with a special emphasis on the electoral process, which is great for this fall. I look forward to using portions of this unit more in-depth next year when we will be studying American Government.
We the People is designed as an 8-week study and is $19.95. Other Once-A-Week Unit Studies available include: Birds of a Feather, Horsing Around, Forest for the Trees, Weather on the Move, Knights and Nobles, Native America, Early Settlers, Revolutionary Ideas, Lewis and Clark, and Christmas Comes to America. Each unit study also offers suggestions to help meet badge requirements for Boy Scouts and American Heritage Girls. Any four combined Once-a-Week Unit Studies will easily satisfy a full course study of history or science, if you choose to use Once-a-Week Unit Studies as your main source of history or science. All Once-a-Week Unit Studies are appropriate for Grades 2-12, though upper levels will still need their lab sciences.
