We spent a quiet New Year's Eve at home, just our family. The kids played video games with their dad until about 9:30. Then we told them they could go up to the school room and watch DVDs until midnight. Our evening ended when the fireworks around the neighborhood went off at midnight. Our house is situated on a hill with a view of the subdivision in the valley below, so it was prime viewing for the fireworks going off in that neighborhood as well. The kids thought that was great! After sleeping in this morning we gathered for brunch and a family meeting in the living room. We marked out our calendar for the rest of the school year and talked about activities that we would like to participate in, trips we have planned, and set goals for how to fit everything in.
The most exciting thing on our immediate schedule is the arrangements we have made for the girls to have weekly ski lessons for six weeks in January and February. None of us have ever been skiing before, even though we live in ski country. They are really looking forward to that! I am hopeful that it will help make the winter not seem so long!
As we begin the new year and set our goals and make our plans, the most important thing to remember is that ultimately God is in control of our lives and we are trusting Him for the future... whatever that may hold!
A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.
Proverbs 16:9

Sounds restful & fun! I love the ide of a family meeting to plan out the year. We might have to do that. I'll see what my guys think. Sometimes I have to talk them into those kind of things :o)
Take care my friend!
Happy New Year!
What a beautiful picture! And yippee for the girls and skiing lessons! Have fun, girls!
I have enjoyed your blog posts and comments on my blog throughout 2008 and look forward to many more in 2009! Happy New Year!!!
I love the ski lesson idea! :)
Glad to hear that your New Year was nice. I like to spend it with family at home as well.
Last yr we had a family mtg at Starbucks to discuss similar plans for our future/trips/education/etc. We did it on New Yrs Day last yr - but due to a work party today and slowness on the part of the parents in working on the plans - we probably won't do it until tomorrow. The kids have asked about it numerous times - so we really need to do it.
Happy New Year! I hope it is more than wonderful for you! xo rachel
