June was simply a whirlwind of trips and activity for my family. And here we are already a week into July. These sweet summer days just go by so fast. I want to slow down and savor the moments.
For Independence Day weekend we went to McCall, Idaho (about 6 hours away) for family camp. We had been wanting to attend a family camp for several years, and finally this year it worked out. Our kids had never been to a "camp-meeting" (at least that they remember) so they didn't know what to expect. Having grown up going to camp every summer, I knew they would love it. And I was right! It was a little bit hard because we didn't know very many people, but probably next year will be better in that regard. Since we are still "between churches" we really enjoyed the preaching and came away challenged.
The teens had recreational activities every afternoon and late at night after the evening service. On the 4th of July, the "Afterglow" activity was going to the lake to see the fireworks. We all went along. The fireworks display was your typical 4th-of-July fireworks display. What was absolutely spectacular was the mountain sunset/moonset over the lake. My brother said it was worth fighting the crowd at the lake just to see the sunset. I have to agree. (If you enlarge the picture you can see the moon setting, too.)
