My mother and her older sister only lack a few days being a year apart in age. Here they are with their birthday cake in the mid-1940s when they were little girls...Aunt Donnie has the cake, but I'm not sure what that is Mother is holding. Maybe a pudding or jello salad? Something special, no doubt!

Thank you, Karla! Donnie's birthday is first, so that makes her a year and 12 days older. We are both holding cakes. Mother Shumaker's neighbor, Amy Walker who was Aunt Bonnie's mother-in-law, made the cakes. She made wonderful angel food cakes and I'm sure that is what the one is. Don't remember what the other one was or why she make two. We may have been having a big dinner with lots of people. Special dinners was the way we usually celebrated birthdays.
